Safety Precautions for the Production Line of Thick, Single-Use Expanded Pearl Cotton Sheets
Sep 02,2019
The expanded polyethylene (EPE) foam industry is widely regarded as a high-risk sector; the very mention of EPE production often evokes concerns about its propensity to ignite and explode. This is because EPE itself is a flammable material, and the manufacturing process relies on butane gas as the blowing agent. Butane is a highly reactive flammable gas with extensive everyday applications, such as in lighter fuel.
However, flammable gases will only ignite or explode if triggered by an ignition source.
The primary factors contributing to butane gas ignition are as follows:
1. In the event of a butane gas leak (conduct daily safety inspections and perform regular maintenance and upkeep of equipment and pipelines).
2. Inadequate ventilation in the workshop (conduct daily gas concentration measurements, maintain proper workshop ventilation, and upgrade exhaust systems).
3. Presence of open flames, electrical sparks, or static electricity (conduct safety inspections and production management, and implement effective static-control measures).
4. Production Management and Personnel Safety Awareness (Strengthening Staff Training and Safety Awareness)
During production, maintaining adequate ventilation in the workshop and strictly prohibiting open flames or smoking can effectively eliminate this potential hazard; furthermore, the layout and design of factory buildings, workshops, and warehouses must be rational and well-organized. Finished products must be promptly stored upon completion of production and should never be haphazardly piled together.
Today, foam-molding technology is highly sophisticated, and as long as operators follow the manufacturer’s established procedures, risks such as fires and explosions can be completely eliminated. Therefore, there is no need to assume that producing expanded polyethylene (EPE) foam is inherently dangerous.
